Cesme peninsula has long been a firm favourite with discerning Turkish holiday makers. It is not quite on the radar of International travellers yet which is a shame as it has a lot to offer. Cesme encompasses the town and marina area of Cesme, the sandy beaches of Ilica and the gorgeous Greek town of Alacati. Alacati is a picture perfect town that was inhabited by the Greeks. Wander the cobble stoned streets filled with cafes, bars and boutiques in this upmarket town. The Saturday farmers market is popular with its stalls of fruit, vegetables and organic textiles. The outlying beaches of Alacati are a firm favourite with windsurfers and kitesurfers alike. Ilica has a long sandy beach and is very safe for children. Cesme town has a large castle perched over the town with views over the marina and across the sea to the Greek island of Chios. Day trips can be organized to the old Roman ruins of Ephesus just over an hour away by car. Closer to Cesme is the delightful town of Urla. Urla is one of the main wine locations in Turkey and a visit to local wineries such as Urla and Usca wineries are highly recommended. Sample the local grape Bornova Misket used in crisp white wines. Izmir is about an hours drive from Cesme peninsula.
